Pressing play on this track was an immediate reset. Through a wave of submissions that were all trying to be something that sounded big, I found Woman I don’t know yet, a breezy and calming take on indie/pop, happy to plod along like a surfboard coming into shore.

Woman I Don't Know Yet single by Cazzjezter

Now, some very early critiquing – in my opinion the intro to this song is double the length it needs to be. I loved the sound that kicked the track off, but there were 4 bars where I worried the track was maybe instrumental. After a full listen, that motif is repeated almost throughout the entire song – so I strongly believe that the vocals can come in sooner (and would slide the chorus in earlier!).

That said, the track is produced very well, with every riff and instrument earning it’s spot. The vocals throughout the track are fitting and well-recorded, and balanced into the mix perfectly. Despite the motif mentioned earlier repeating throughout the song, there’s still enough change in the dynamic build up to keep the song engaging. Double-tracked vocals on the chorus let them sit above the rest of the song dynamically without overdoing anything, and the first chorus is followed by a guitar (and somewhat sneaky saxophone) solo. They stay understated, purposefully adding some break in the repetition nicely. The construction of the track, which could very easily grow tiresome with such high repetition, instead continues to have little surprises throughout.

The entire track boasts subtlety. Small changes, like the second verse offering slightly different rhythm vocally, as well as instruments playing supporting slots to perfection, allow this song to be defined and strongly unique. It took my mind on a road trip, in the middle of summer. Cruise control on, driving myself to better days. I will be very excited to see what Cazzjezter has to offer this year, and what direction his music will take. His social media presence is limited, however he shared his submission for review so hopefully is planning more music in the future!
