IAAS Update #01

Hello! My name is Rob; I’m the founder of IAAS Music. I wanted to share a few things after our first two months of properly operating as an indie music journalism platform. (We did, of course, soft launch the site a couple of years ago, but now that I can compare that to a time with the current team, I don’t think it counts!) It feels best to have frequent updates both for transparency, but also so we have external communications that aren’t just reserved for in case something goes wrong!!

So far, in our first two months, we’ve had 28 articles go up – meaning almost every other day we’ve had something published for indie music fans to read. Now, quantity hasn’t ever been the focus, but instead we have aimed to ensure the quality of every article we’ve posted has been high enough to justify the read. There’s some tremendous examples of this, particularly over the last couple of weeks with Leonny’s festival coverage of LASALLE RIF 2026. This has also made Singapore a key market for us –with 20% of our traffic coming from Singapore. This is approximately the same percentage as the UK, US and China, who all offer ~20% of our traffic.

Who is on the IAAS Music team?

So far, there are three writers contributing to the site – Rob, focusing on articles and primarily indie/rock reviews, Paul – our in-house expert in Electronic production, and Leonny, based in Singapore and covering a wide range of artists & genres, focusing on songwriting with a deeply analytical scope. All writers will have the opportunity to cover live events, which Leonny has kicked off in South-East Asia already!

We do have three more writers who are looking at joining to contribute, but right now we are focusing on making sure that those who do join are doing so in a manner they find manageable, as well as having any new additions have an element of ownership in their specialty (for example, live music coverage in the UK, which will launch in the coming months).

What isIAAS_Tv?

After seeing what can happen with a team of brilliant writers contributing to the site, and being aware our social media content is limited by being primarily written content ourselves, we are looking to launch IAAS_Tv. This will be a platform that offers live video shoots, interviews, structured programs and more – creating another platform to support upcoming artists and make brilliant content. I’m hoping this can become something that runs independently but very much embedded in the IAAS Music sphere and can support our written content. It’s all a part of making IAAS Music a recongnisable brand and will hopefully make IAAS Music independent musicians’ first port of call to support with promoting their music.

DoesIAAS Music make money?

No. Currently, we do not. Setting up the website has been a big upfront cost for myself – but I’m very confident that we’ve built a platform capable of generating enough income to pay our writers. That’s my first goal! We have future-proofed the website, so there’s multiple ways of generating income available – we have ads running for all visitors not on paid memberships. Our paid memberships will be a huge way for people who appreciate what we are doing to support our cause and start at a very affordable £5/month! And lastly, I have launched a line of merch over the last couple of weeks – again, the aim being to generate enough revenue that our writers can get paid and the website is self-sustaining.

Please, if you’ve read all of this, then you’ve invested at the ground floor. Please consider checking out our paid memberships or even grabbing a T-shirt to wear to your next gig!

Also, let us know what you think of the merch! There’s a big internal discussion currently on whether or not we hate the usage of “ass” in the pronunciation on this T-shirt:
